In Suibukan self defense seminars, we are connecting the natural part to the psychological one. We arouse the battle spirit and build the warrior's virtues. What we are interested in, is better quality of life. That's why we hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; Not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable.
Extract from "The Art of War", Sun Tzu, 5th century BC.
On the external part, self defense is ourself's defense towards a threat, that can be a human being, animal or natural disaster.
Nevertheless, deep inside, self defense is the defense against our inner self, because the handling of every threat is the handling of our self (of our worst enemy...), which means the handling of our fears, guilts and passions. Consequently, our ability in self defense is granted not only through physical exercising but also by opposing bad habits and establishing good ones.
